Botanical Name: Salvia apiana
Suggested Uses: Smudging is a traditional Native American use of white sage that involves burning an herb and bathing oneself or an object in its smoke to clear away negative influences and restore balance. The herbs are bundled or placed loosely in a bowl where they are ignited and then extinguished. The resulting smoke is fanned over the person or object to be cleansed using one's hand or a feather.
Product Notes: Our White Sage consists of two to three inch branched pieces with attached leaves. The leaves are 1 to 3 inches long and silvery-grey to yellowish-grey in color, covered in a thick downy white pubescence and attached to stems of the same color and texture. The leaves are dry and brittle resulting in some loose or broken leaves in every package due to handling during packaging and shipping. When crushed they give off a sage-like aroma which comes from a 4% essential oil content comprised mostly of camphor and eucalyptol.
Origin: United States
Sourcing Notes: Our supplier, a Native American, works with us to ethically wildcraft this product. He not only harvests in a manner that will not injure or destroy the plants (or the environment), but performs a prayer ceremony before each harvest. It is believed that when you smudge, you are asking the spirit of the plant for assistance, and you should pay respect to their healing power.
